What is MPower?
MPower is a four-day extended orientation leadership experience at the University of Mississippi. Students will be placed in small groups of about 10-12 peers led by an upperclassman peer leader. Over the course of the program, we will engage in various team activities, leadership conversations, attend exciting keynote speaker sessions and main-stage entertainment, and introduce you to our UM community. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
How do I register?
Students may register online at this link. The last day to register for MPower is Monday, August 2, or until program capacity is full. To register, a student must have a confirmed UM Web ID and password.
Who can attend MPower?
All incoming first-year students may register to attend MPower. There is no pre-requisite to joining this leadership experience. At MPower we affirm that all students have unique leadership capabilities and we look forward to growing those with you.
Program capacity is 450 students, and we admit on a first-come first-served basis. Once we have reached maximum capacity, students will be placed on a waitlist. If space opens from cancellations, we will notify those on the waiting list that their registration is confirmed.
What is the cost of attendance?
The MPower Registration cost is $225. This fee includes all meals, early move-in, T-Shirts, program activities, and participant materials. After completing your registration form, you will be sent a link to a secure server to make a credit card payment, or a check may be sent to our office at the address listed below.
What if I cannot afford the fee?
We do not want financial barriers to prevent any students from attending MPower. If you have faced recent financial hardship or have demonstrated financial need, you may qualify for a full fee waiver. In order to be considered for a full fee waiver, please complete a quick form linked here. Please contact mpower@olemiss.edu to inquire about the fee waiver process.
When is the latest to cancel my registration?
Friday, August 6th is the last possible day to cancel your MPower registration. To initiate a cancellation, you must complete this form. Students who cancel after the August 6th deadline or do not show up to MPower will incur a no-show fee of $50 to be applied to their fall billing statement.
Where will I stay during MPower?
MPower participants will be able to move in to their housing assignment on August 18th, pending confirmation from UM Leadership and Residence Life, and given that there are no changes to the academic calendar.
When will I arrive for the program and where will it take place?
MPower check-in will take place at the Ole Miss Student Union on Wednesday, August 18th beginning at 8:00 AM. Students, families, and supporters will have the remainder of the morning to get settled on campus. MPower’s program kickoff will take place that afternoon. A schedule preview and full check-in details will be emailed to participants in the weeks prior to MPower.
What if I have a conflicting program at the same time as MPower?
Please contact us if you have any concerns about attending programs that overlap with MPower. We work closely with departments across campus to ensure that students who want to attend MPower while participating in various campus activities have the opportunity to do so. Students who are a part of FASTrack, Panhellenic Recruitment, Bonner Scholars, and other programs are able to participate in MPower.
